After five years of marriage, we started our family. We lost no time—having four children in five years. But in the middle of having babies—after number two—we felt called to ministry. Stan left his job (I had left mine after the first baby) and moved from Houston to Fort Worth for seminary. We had two more babies there. Stan also received a cancer diagnosis. He battled that for about fifteen years. (He will tell that story in a later blog post.)
My life was filled with homeschooling the children (until they reached seventh grade) and serving in various volunteer capacities: preschool and children’s Sunday schools, AWANA, Kids Beach Club, and homeschool groups. I have also taught aerobics since even before the kids were born—step, cycle, boot camp, strength circuits, Silver Sneakers, water aerobics, and yoga. I also taught French at a private school to preschool- and elementary-age children. Later, I worked as a Marketing Specialist for Lionheart Children’s Academy as it was in its infancy.
Someone once asked me, “what is something no one knows about you?” I said something like, “I’m a Francophile.” I was too afraid to say what I really wanted to say—that I think all the time—about things like why things are the way they are, about death, about life, and spiritual and philosophical musings. Stan and I both love the margin we have in our lives now to muse—or what he calls “toodling and noodling.” We’ll be sharing some of those random thoughts as well.
Enjoy the voyage with us!
